The Programme Runs in UK & Abroad

We run two day programmes designed to help you as a scuba diving instructor or Dive Master to work with people with life changing injuries who wish to scuba dive.  We aim through adaptive teaching to qualify such individuals wherever possible as PADI OW divers.

It is all about thinking out of the box and our programme was described by Frank Buchanan who runs The Scuba Trust as “setting the standard for the diving industry”.  We are tremendously proud that someone of Frank’s status within the disabled diving community should recommend us so highly.

The programme runs both in the UK and abroad and lasts for two days.  It is a combination of classroom theory, practical exercises and pool based work.  What we do is to allow you to work with seriously injured students in the pool so you will understand first-hand the real life issues that surround adaptive teaching.

The course covers amongst other topics a medical section and discussion on medication and diving, how to adapt standards, practical issues such as weighting and trim.

You can also register as a Deptherapy Education Dive Centre.  We carry out a full assessment to make sure you are accessible in terms of accessibility.

Pros' Course

SSVC (Services Sound and Vision Corporation) made this short video for us to show how UK Armed Forces' personnel and veterans can qualify as and excel as PADI Divers.

The video was filmed in the pool at Eagle House School, Sandhurst which is used by our UK training facility Divecrew in Crowthorne for scuba diving courses. Divecrew is a PADI 5* Dive Centre and the only Deptherapy Gold Star training facility in the UK.

The video shows bilateral amputee and PADI Dive Master Chris Middleton, formerly of the Royal Scots' Dragoon Guards helping PADI Instructors on the Deptherapy Professionals' Course to understand how to teach those with life changing injuries adaptively so they can achieve PADI standards.

Deptherapy don't just take the soldiers diving; they set their minds at ease and help them to pursue diving, even after the initial programme.
